Ballroom - Latin - Swing - Country Western
Full Time Instructor
You could say that my dance training started at a fairly early age - I began dancing Tejano and Cumbia when I was just five years old. From there, I took up Jazz, twirling, the drill team, and even spent a few years as a percussionist. But in the end, it was dance that stuck with me. I have always used it as an outlet to relieve stress, so when I saw an ad for a teacher training class, it was like a dream come true. With only two semesters left to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, I left college to teach dance full-time. Needless to say, I don't regret my decision - I'm getting paid to do what I love!
It's funny how big the seemingly small decisions in your life can be. The freedom that I feel when dancing, and the feeling I get from teaching and watching a student grow in their own dancing, are some of the most rewarding I know. Had I not made the choice to be a Dance Instructor, I would probably be working as a social work case manager for Child Protective Services somewhere. Instead, I moved to Austin in late 2007 and began teaching full-time here at Go Dance.
Over the years, I have grown to love all of the Latin dances the best - my favorite of all being Rumba. My music tastes are a little more eclectic, although I am definitely stuck in the 80's. The bands you'll find me listening to most often are Depeche Mode and Outfield. In my little time away from dancing, I love to go horseback riding, read, do aerobics and even sky dive.
