“Ch- Ch- Ch- Changes” You can let change happen… or cause it to happen,
by Mylie Arnold
We’ve had a lot of change at Go Dance in the past 5 years. In 2004, we built and moved into a new studio, and less than 4 years later, we did it again by moving into our current studio this past March. In general I am a fan of the changes and the growth. For example, I love our new larger dance floors because they allow us to share the joy of dance with more and more people. But every once in awhile, something makes me step back and wonder if we are growing in the best way? I ask myself, can we retain what was special and unique about the studio when it was small as we grow?
One of those times was when I was attending my husband’s 10-year high school reunion. He introduced me to some old friends and their last name seemed vaguely familiar. During our conversation they sked me what I did and I told them I owned a dance studio. They mentioned they were taking Swing classes at Go Dance.
At that moment, it struck me just how much things really have changed. Up until the past few years, I taught many of the group classes myself. And when I wasn’t teaching, I was at the front desk answering phones and checking students in for classes. But as the studio has grown, I have moved more behind the scenes dealing with accounting and all the other fun stuff that goes along with running a business. There was a time when I personally knew each and every student at the studio and yet I had just met two people who had been taking classes for almost a month and I didn’t even know they were students!
Now that we’re settled into our new location, I can shift my focus away from dealing with landlords and building contractors and get back to the core of why we’re here… to share our love of dance with as many people as possible! And because I believe that you can either let change happen to you or cause change to happen to you, I am in the process of proactively causing some changes here at Go Dance. My goal is to ultimately enrich your experience with us and help you share your passion for dance with those you love. To that end, I would love to hear your wish list for things to come in the future.
Please join me Tuesday, July 29th for our first-ever Open House. I will be there to meet you personally and hear your thoughts on how we can enrich your experience and invite others to enjoy this world we call dance. We will have free level-one introductory classes for your family and friends to enjoy. And for the first time, we will offer free level-two mini-workshops for our current students. I hope to see you there!
