If someone had told me not so long ago that I would one day teach and perform dance, I would not have seriously believed it. In fact, the prospect of being asked to dance somewhere was quite frightening. Nudged along by some outside influences, not the least of which included the dance scene from the movie Swingers, I decided one day to get over my fear and start taking classes at Go Dance. I quickly found myself spending most of my off hours either attending classes, practicing or frequenting the local dance spots. Having an affinity for latin music and percussion, I began to specialize in Salsa and in 2005 I joined Jazzy Dance Company, a salsa performance team directed by Carlos Leon and Azucena Perez. In addition to performing for a number of audiances with Jazzy, I began competing and in 2007, my partner and I placed second in the Texas Salsa Open.

My path from a non-dancer to social dancer to an instructor and performer goes to show that such a journey begins simply by taking the first step.  As an instructor at Go Dance, my intention is to make that first step a fun and easy one if you are just beginning, or to provide coaching to intermediate dancers looking to get to that next level.  Whatever your background or goals, remember that every body is meant to move  -- to not dance is to miss out on a tradition that millions of people have done for thousands of years!

Originally from Tucson, Arizona, I moved to Austin in 2003 after graduating from Stanford University, where where I attended college on a cross country and track scholarship. When not dancing or teaching, I enjoy reading, exercising and attending the latest rendition of Mister Sinus Theatre.

"Taking lessons at Go Dance was one of the best gifts I've given myself. The social and physical benefits are tremendous. I should've done this years ago!! "
